Woman arrested on DUI charge for 4th time

One woman in Colorado was recently arrested on DUI charges after police said she struck a police officer's car. The woman's DUI arrest is her fourth. The woman facing a charge of drinking and driving is 30 years old.

According to police, the woman drove while under the influence of alcohol and then fled the scene after crashing into a trooper's vehicle. They said they caught the woman shortly after the crash. The wreck occurred at a little before 9:30 p.m. on a recent Wednesday at the intersection of two streets.

Police said that the police officer whose car was hit had stopped another car near a golf course when the woman's vehicle sideswiped his patrol car. The trooper suffered no injuries in the crash but was transported to a medical center for precautionary reasons. The woman currently faces multiple charges, including hit and run as well as DUI.

An individual who faces a charge of DUI has the right to go to trial if he or she believes this to be in his or her best interests. Prosecutors have to prove the person's charges beyond a reasonable doubt with appropriate evidence before a criminal conviction can be handed down. A defendant may decide that pursuing negotiations for a plea deal, if available, is more expedient than going to trial if the prosecutor's potential evidence seems strong. A plea agreement might lead to reduced charges or a lighter sentence from the Colorado court. In either event, the criminal defense will push for an outcome that is most favorable for the accused.
