Man accused of DUI drives into park

A man in Colorado is currently facing charges of driving under the influence following a motor vehicle accident. The accident occurred on a recent Wednesday. At the time of the accident, the license of the driver had already been revoked due to previous DUI convictions.

According to police, the man was driving a truck early in the day and was traveling on a one-way street in the wrong direction. That is when he hit a parked car. He then reportedly entered a park and became stuck in the vicinity of some playground equipment.

Authorities said they had stopped the man's vehicle near the park, at which time he accelerated and drove away. Police reported that when they confronted the 34-year-old man, he smelled like alcohol. His speech was also allegedly slurred, and his eyes were watery and bloodshot. The man is also said to have had trouble speaking. He later appeared in court on possible charges of reckless driving and DUI as well as criminal mischief and leaving an accident scene.

The man facing DUI charges in Colorado is presumed innocent until and unless he is proved guilty in a court of law. The prosecution must prove the man's charges beyond a reasonable doubt before a conviction can happen. Rather than proceeding to trial, the man may decide to seek a plea deal with prosecutors, which may lead to lighter charges and/or a more lenient sentence. Either way, the criminal defense will push for an outcome that is ultimately in the best interest of the accused.
