DUI charge for woman accused of stealing Uber driver's car

A woman was taken into custody in Colorado after police said she stole her Uber driver's car and then crashed into a retaining wall with it. The accident took place in the early morning hours on a Saturday. She was arrested and jailed on a bond of $500.

Police said they arrived at the accident scene at around 2:40 a.m. At that time, it was reported to them that the woman had gotten into an altercation with another person in the Uber car and refused to leave the motor vehicle. The Uber driver apparently left the vehicle to break up the altercation. The woman reportedly locked the car, took it over and subsequently drove into a retaining wall.

In addition to hitting the wall, the vehicle apparently ran into landscaping and struck a tree. Allegedly, the woman almost hit the Uber driver as well. The car sustained major damage in the front area. The accused woman was taken to the hospital and then jailed on charges of the aggravated theft of a motor vehicle, criminal mischief, DUI, felony menacing, resisting arrest and obstructing a police officer.

When people face DUI charges in Colorado, it is within their rights to defend themselves vigorously at every stage of the proceedings, including trial. In court, prosecutors have to prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt before any conviction is possible. A close look at the evidence that prosecutors intend to offer in court to support their allegations will likely be a chief area of focus for the defense in this type of criminal case.
