DUI in Colorado leads to man's arrest

A man in Colorado faces multiple charges following a motor vehicle crash. According to police, the man was alcohol impaired at the time of the accident. The alleged DUI accident occurred along Interstate 25.

The crash took place a little before 5 p.m. A person riding in the car that was involved in the accident suffered injuries and was taken to the hospital. Meanwhile, the driver was taken into custody for driving under the influence.

The passenger's status was not immediately known. However, state police said they believed that the injuries were not life threatening. The driver, who is 33 years old, currently faces reckless driving, DUI and vehicular assault charges. The driver also reportedly did not furnish proof of insurance.

Being arrested for a DUI following a Colorado accident involving injuries can be frightening due to the seriousness of the charges stemming from this type of incident. However, innocence is always presumed unless and until the prosecution proves guilt in court and beyond a reasonable doubt -- a standard that exists in an effort to prevent innocent people from being convicted of crimes they did not commit. The criminal defense will focus on the evidence that prosecutors intend to provide to support their accusations. For instance, they may wish to scrutinize the accuracy of a roadside sobriety test result if such a test was administered prior to the defendant's arrest. Defense counsel will push to make sure that all of the client's legal rights are upheld during every stage of the criminal proceeding.
